Branch Motor Express Company

I started at Branch in 1978 and was with them to the end. The Morgan Trucking Co. service directory isn't very fancy by today's standards, but it got the job done.

I worked out of the terminal in Reading, PA, which also served as their North-South break. If I remember correctly, we provided overnight service to 23 terminal in the Northeast at a time when overnight service was only a dream for many carriers. We were very heavy into textiles and our sleeper teams provided next day service to/from Charlotte and Greensboro. It was a fun place to work.

When Branch went down, I continued in the industry with Tose-Fowler, Hall's Motor Transit, AAA Trucking, and Plymouth Rock before coming to New England Motor Freight. Considering the aforementioned companies all went out of business, I was always surprised NEMF didn't consider me an anchor around the company's neck.

I saw this nice Transcon Mack restoration in Lebanon, PA, September 22, 2015. Don’t know who owns it.
