Here's the L Fords that American Hardware operated out of both the Westfield and East Butler, PA distribution centers. This one was stopped at the Westfield Hojo's in early 1975 This photo was taken in Feb. 1972. This was one of my very first rolls of pictures with my original Kodak 126 camera. Hall's, Inc. from Low Moor, IA use to meet a local farmer who had hogs and drove a small straight livestock truck across from Exit 3 of the Mass Pike to drop some off every few weeks. Hall's always came with nice KWCOE's like this road grime covered green one. This unidentified early series W model Ford was stopped at the Eastbound Ludlow Service Plaza between Exits 7 & 8 sometime in 1974.
W model Ford that is starting to rust out below the passenger side door had stopped along U.S. 5 in W. Springfield early in 1974. This Dodge COE leased to Interstate Contract Carrier Corp. was at that LTL motel in W. Springfield sometime during the summer of 1974. I've included both the cropped/autofix version and the straight scan of it for you to decide which looks better. Another one of Albert Farms sharp rigs. This KW had just come off the Mass Pike Exit 3 ramp onto S.B. U.S. 202 in Westfield in early spring 1973.
This "way out" Diamond Reo was named "Space Truck" on the bumper and was taken on a dreary summer day in 1974 along U.S. 5 in W. Springfield. Note the Quinn Freight Lines White 9000 approaching in the background. Leaseway Transportation's Mitchell Transport from Cleveland, OH hooked to a Lehigh Cement bulker at the Westfield A & W Root Beer stand along U.S. 202 in fall 1973. This is the very first White Freightliner Conv. I ever shot back in June 1975 @ the LTL motel. It was almost brand new and the O/O had it leased to Navajo Freight Lines reefer div. out of Denver, CO.
The driver of this Diamond Reo had pulled over and stopped just before getting his "ticket to ride" at Exit 4 of the Mass Pike in 1974. This Emeryville fertilizer hauler was headed back to the plant near Ft Pierce, FL in mid 1981 when I caught him on FL Route 70 right by Florida's Turnpike exit ramp. R.C. Moore, Inc. "Midnight Special" from Maine delivering to the former A & P grocery warehouse in Springfield's North end in summer 1974. Deville Furniture Hickory, NC was delivering to a furniture store in Westfield sometime in late 1973. Holly Farms Poultry from N. Wilkesboro, NC at the Pioneer Valley Ref. Warehouse Jan. 1976.
Layed over at a motel along U.S. 5 in W. Springield this John F. Ivory from Detroit looked pretty nice in the early evening rays in summer 1974. These two rigs were paused to let a fire engine pass by at the entrance to the Mass Pike Exit 3 from U.S. 202 in Westfield in spring 1973. This was another of my bicycle shots before got my drivers license. Good ole Refrigerated Transport, a well known and long gone reefer fleet out of Atlanta, GA off-loading at the Springfield, MA farmer's market in early 1975.

This O/O leased to ICCC (Interstate Contract Carrier Corp) from SLC, Utah was parked next to a tire dealership near the Springfield farmers market in early 1975.
Just a general shot as I was driving through the old Windmill Truckers Center lot off of I-70 near Wheeling, WV in June 1978. Here's some kind of an ag-related plant right along CA Route 113 near Woodland, CA with an old IH conv. by the building that I noticed sometime in 1976.
One of my early 1972 shots with the Polaroid self developing print film of this White Freightliner # 225791 leased to NAVL that I shot in Westfield, MA near the house I grew up in. An unidentified KW conv taken in early 1980 in out in th rural St Lucie County, FL O/O leased to Schanno from St Paul, MN Diamond Reo COE was at the Valley View Diner in W. Springfield in early 1975.
From back in the summer of 1972 comes this Hurliman Trucking from Portland, OR that was diverting around the low clearance end of the Ex: Boston & Albany Railroad mainline viaduct/bridge that passes through downtown Westfield. NAVL W model Ford was stopped at a shopping center along U. S. 5 in W. Springfield in summer 1974. This old Diamond Reo was stopped just North of the Mass Pike Exit 3 on U.S. 202 as daylight was giving way to dusk on this fall 1974 evening. This was the best that little Kodak Pocket camera could do for the less than favorable conditions I had to deal with.

IH 4300 leased to Midwest Emery Freight System from Chicago unloading at Hampden Beef in summer 1974. H.R. Ewell from East Earl, PA at a milk plant on U.S. 5 in W. Springfield in early 1975. Unidentified IH Transtar with kind of an unusual looking trailer at the Valley View Diner in W. Springfield in summer 1974. Goya Foods from Tenafly, NJ ran a super sharp fleet of KW COE's in the early -mid 70's delivering their Hispanic food products around the Northeastern states. This unit was parked at the Valley View Diner in W. Springfield in summer 1974. All their trailers were very low in height so they could make negotiate all the low clearances.
I think this is one snazzy looking F model Mack for Horne Transportation who was waiting his turn to unload across the street from the Springfield farmers market in Feb. 1974. An O/O who has his W Ford leased to Southwest Freight Lines was delivering to the rear doors of Lewis Beef Co. in Springfield in summer 1974. Here's kind of a "used up" looking GMC Crackerbox for some Marine Sales company that was parked in a vacant W. Springfield lot in early 1975.
A basic no frills GMC 9500 with an add on sleeper box for a small fleet called B&M that was delivering to the Springfield farmer's market sometime during smmer 1974. A tough looking older White Freightliner for E.M. Wayt & Co. Contractors from Portland, OR who had pulled into the Mass 10 Truck Stop on U.S. 20 near Auburn, MA during fall 1974. The Wild West Rodeo Show came to a former cucumber farm in Westfield back in summer 1974. I chased this KW across the field and shot this picture just as driver came to stop before he even knew what happened.
R.C. West & Sons Produce from Virginia brought this load to the Springfield farmer's market with this good looking IH Transtar in late 1974. An agent for Allied Van Lines brought this early IH Transtar model to Springfield in summer 1974. Here's a fall 1974 lineup at the Eastbound Mass Pike Service plaza near Ludlow, MA. Schwerman was a heavy turnpike user bringing lots of loads of cement to ready mix plants across Massachusetts from Eastern New York State.
An O/O leased to Rowley Interstate from Dubuque, IA was at Lewis Beef with his Pete on this dreary day in early 1975. Atlas Van Lines agent at Westfield Hojo's summer 1974 A Chevy Titan for North American Van Lines layed over at the Holiday Inn in downtown Springfield, MA in early 1975
O/O leased to Chicago based Distributors Service Co. that was paused by where U.S. 20 & I-291 meet on the East side of Springfield in summer 1974. Yorktowne Kitchens, not sure where from parked at a motel along U.S. 5 in W. Springfield also in summer 1974. This was winter to me growing up. Taken in early 1975 at the Westfield Hojo's it appears the driver of this Chevy Titan has decided to wait out the storm.
One of the Springfield area NAVL agent's Mack at the company lot in Chicopee in early spring 1975. The Mack has the then new NAVL blue on the saddle fuel tank and front bumper, but the trailer has yet to receive the new color scheme and logo's. National Freight from Vineland, NJ with a rather clean for winter U model Mack and freight box in Springfield's N. end in early 1975. Nationwide Carriers, Inc. from Maple Plain, MN was acquired by Roadway Services and subsequently shutdown after not too long. R model Mack #781 was delivering to hamden Beef in sometime in summer 1974.
Allied agent B and C Transfer had this nice drom equipped Pete parked out in front of the Anderson & Benson Storage warehouse in downtown Springfield in late fall 1974. An Eastern Motor Lines (from possibly NC or VA) GMC Astro at a W. Springfield motel along U.S. 5 in summer 1974. O/O Kermit Green was unloading at the Springfield farmer's market in late 1974. This was a true home made winter weather grille cover to keep him from freezing while driving.
National Farm Lines (not sure where based) was layed over at the W. Springfield Hojo's on U.S. 5 in early 1975. Another Marmon COE for J.B. Montgomery from Denver, CO at the Springfield farmers market in summer 1974. This Leaseway Truck Rental White Road Commander I was being fueled up at the Marquis Texaco on U.S. 5 in W. Springfield in summer 1974.
Midwestern Distribution, Inc. from Ft Scott, KS layed over at the Country Court Motel on U.S. 202 N. side of Westfield in summer 1974. An O/O leased to Eagle Motor Lines from Birmingham, AL with another load of power line transmission tower assemblies for that big construction project that was going on in 1974 near Westfield.
Ardmore Farms from Ardmore(?), PA at the Springfield farmers market in late 1974/early 1975. They had a nice fleet of orange and white rigs that ran up and down the East Coast, but this is the only daycab I ever saw for them. For some reason? I took a distant shot of this U model Mack for building materials hauler H. Maynard Gould from the Boston area suburb of East Walpole, MA. I believe Gould and Millis Transportation from Millis, MA were under the same joint ownership. This was the only shot I ever got of the Gould fleet so it'll have to suffice for history's sake. Meilink Steel Safe Company from Toledo, OH was at the Marquis Texaco in early 1975. Too bad it was a cloudy day plus the rig was pretty much covered in winter road grime because the picture doesn't give their very sharp small fleet the justice that it deserves.
East Penn Trucking from Lehighton, PA with a bashed in front bumper exiting Florida's Turnpike onto FL Route 70 W. of Ft Pierce in Spring 1981. Heavy truck traffic Eastbound on I-40 by Exit 407 E. of Knoxville, TN shortly before dusk in early May 2009. When our girls were small back in the early 1990's we rode the Tennessee Valley Railway train one summer near Chattanooga. Sure enough as we were pulling out of the station this NAVL IH was parked on the museum property so I had to shoot my first truck picture from a moving train.
A good looking early model KW T-600 for R.C. Moore out of Scarborough, ME at the former Holiday Inn along FL Route 60 W. of Vero Beach sometime in 1981. Vornado Trucking from Garfield, NJ with this S. axle White Road Commander 1 delivering to the Chicopee, MA Two Guys Dept. Store across from the Mass Pike Exit 5 ramp during summer 1974. Something Poultry Farms from what looks like Virginia at the Westfield Hojo's in fall 1974. Cannot read the taped on placard over the name painted on the door of this F Model Mack that was delivering to the Springfield farmer's market in summer 1974. Not sure if this ex: Anderson Motor Lines trailer was from the fleet that was based in New Haven, CT or not. Here are two Moss Trucking 7400 White's from Charlotte, NC at the Westfield A & W Root Beer parking lot the day after a big snowstorm in early 1975.
Location Cliche it reads on the fuel saddle tank of this black and white Quebec based Freightliner I found near Vero Beach, FL sometime in the late 80's. Kind of a sharp IH 4300 that was at the former Courtesy House 76 W. of Vero Beach, FL in the early 80's. Can't quite make out the lettering or where it was from on the sleeper. No name on this F Mack sitting across the street from the Springfield farmer's market in late 1974.
This O/O leased to Brown Transport Corp. Atlanta, GA (reefer div.) was waiting his turn to get an open dock the A & P warehouse on Springfield's North end in early fall 1974. Coats Freightways, Inc. from Council Bluffs, IA delivering to Lewis Beef Co. in Springfield, Summer 1974. Nice Pete COE leased on with Jay Lines, Inc. Amarillo, TX at Hamden Beef during summer 1974.
O/O leased to Momsen Trucking from Iowa taken in Westfield in fall 1974. A clean looking Pete for Curtis, Inc. Denver, CO waiting to unload at Hampden Beef in Springfield in summer 1974. Note, there was also a rail siding up to the side of the Hampden building for meat that arrived by train. Here is an O/O's F Mack that he has leased to CFX (Coldway Food Xpress) from Sydney, OH. I shot it in early 1975 somewhere in downtown Springfield, can't remember "xactly" where though
T.G. Stegall Trucking from Charlotte, NC ran a nice reefer fleet that I believe evolved from a family milling operation. Perhaps someone knows the full and correct story? This Pete was at the Pioneeer Valley Refrigerated Warehouse in early spring 1975. This unidentified Mack Western series COE hooked to the TM Leasing box was at the Valley View Diner in W. Springfield, MA in summer 1974. An unidentified White 7400 across the street from the Springfield farmers market in late fall 1974.
Minute Maid has an orange/grapefruit juice plant near Ft Pierce. I caught one of their White Road Bosses coming off the Ft Piece exit of Florida's Turnpike in early 1981.
